Third Annual Tampon Drive for Bill Wilson Center
It's estimated that over 10,000 homeless people live on the streets of Santa Clara Valley, and many of these individuals are women, children, and teens. A few years ago, I saw this video about the luxury of tampons for women living on the streets. Imagine that- living in a world in which tampons are a luxury! It inspired my daughter, Jeannessa, and me to do something about it. In 2016, we rallied our community and collected over 100 boxes of tampons for the Bill Wilson Center, which offers a myriad of services to support impoverished youth and families. (My friend and doula, Allana used to be a case manager there for young moms getting on their feet.) When we brought them in, we learned they are also in need of underwear, as many kids come to Bill Wilson with just the clothes on their backs, so last year we collected underwear, as well. This year, we will be collecting tampons, underwear, and socks.
You can help by donating one of these items to our drive. Bring them with you to class anytime between November 27, #GivingTuesday, and Friday, December 21 (at my noon Prenatal class at Blossom) or contact me to arrange a pick-up. As a thank you and to make it fun, for every package you donate, I'll enter your name into a drawing for a holiday gift basket, which includes home baked goodies by yours truly. Tampons can be any brand or style. Underwear and socks can be for women or men.
I hope you will join Jeannessa and me in topping last year's accomplishment. Thank you so much for your generosity!
